Mudavadi miscalculated

Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi could have seriously miscalculated his move out of ODM. He seems to have depleted all his political resources and burnt all his bridges if the current events are anything to go by.

Mudavadi, the latest to ditch ODM, seems to have come head on with reality that the Luhya community might have not left ODM with him.

This became apparent when he failed to set momentum to his campaign last week in Mombasa when his Tononoka rally failed to attract numbers. He later blamed ODM and Raila for dissuading people to attend the UDF rally.

Panic and uncertainty is said to have gripped the Sabatia lawmaker’s UDF party since it is becoming clearer by the day that very few rebels from ODM want to associate with UDF.

Najib Balala (failed to show up in Mombasa last weekend) and Charity Ngilu (said she supported Mudavadi for ODM ticket in March) now seem to have disappeared into thin air right after Mudavadi’s exit from ODM.

Moreover, most of his Western colleagues seem to have remained with Raila in ODM and have lately targeted Mudavadi and heavily criticized him for his move out of ODM.

Ikolomani member of parliament Bonny Khalwale, however has stuck with Mudavadi and is helping him drive the “Raila must retire” campaign across the country.

Mudavadi has now changed tact and is now not holding public rallies because he doesn’t want to be seen to be competing with his former boss for crowds.
